What is a Health Coach?

I often have people ask me “What is a Health Coach”. In short, my answer goes something like this:

A health coach is a person qualified in health and wellness who works individually with clients to motivate and cultivate positive health choices. 

So, what exactly is a Health Coach? 

The answer may well vary, depending on who you ask….but the was I look at it as that Health coaches work with clients to devise strategies to manage chronic disease as well as develop techniques to deal with daily wellness concerns such as stress management and healthy sleep routines. 

Health coaches provide clients with self-management strategies, can assist bridge the gap between the client and the health system and provide emotional support and encouragement.

Health coaches often specialise in various areas, depending on their experience and expertise. As an experienced weight loss consultant (and someone who once struggled with weight loss), naturally my area of interest is weight loss.

As a diagnosed Coeliac I also have a special interest in helping people manage their Coeliac diagnosis.  Having said that, if there is an area that I may be able to assist you with please do not hesitate in contacting me, if I can’t help, I may be able to direct you to someone in my health coaches network.

What I do:

I like to think of myself as as mentor, supporter and friend to my clients who encourages the attainment of health and wellness goals and also keeps my clients accountable for their decisions.

I do this by working closely with my clients via my 1-1 Personalised Programs  to develop individualised plans to suit my clients lifestyle and individual goals. In my practice no foods are banned or banished, I believe that food should be pleasurable and enjoyed. I encourage self care as part of your health journey and address the bio-individual needs of each of my clients.

What I don’t do:

I do not diagnose or treat disease but support my clients to achieve their health and wellness goals by encouraging lifestyle modifications.

I do not subscribe to any particular dietary theory but encourage eating clean, healthy and wholesome foods. Neither do I devise exercise plans or routines.
