“Hydration Station” smoothie

Hydration Station Smoothie

I was super hungry when I woke up this morning  but didn’t feel like eating, this is quite odd for me as I’m always keen to hook in to a smashing breakfast. Knowing that the first meal is the most important meal of the day (and frankly I for one cannot live without my morning sustenance) I decided to listen to my body and forgoing the solids put together this amazingly tasty smoothie instead.

I’ve only really gotten into making smoothies over the past few months, I guess I’ve always preferred to eat my food rather than drink it. But I have discovered that smoothies are a really great way to fit a lot of those healthy greens in. Ask me to sit down to eat a plate of kale and I’ll struggle, pop it in a smoothie though and not problems! My “Hydration Station” smoothie contains watermelon, kale, coconut water & blueberries – making it a good source of of fibre, protein and vitamins, and of course it’s super refreshing which make it great for a post workout drink.

I use my homemade natural yogurt in this recipe, if you’ve not seen my post on this yet, check it out here.  I also add LSA to my smoothies.  LSA is ground linseed, sunflower seed and almonds, it has lots of fibre making it great for the digestive system and chocked full of a plethora of vitamins. You can buy it in the health food section in the supermarkets or online through Bulk Whole Foods and have it delivered straight to your door – it’s about $15/kg – and I recommend that you keep it in the fridge to prevent it going rancid.
